MRSA Prevention

MRSA infection is spread to other people by three ways which are, direct contact with an object infected with the bactera, touching a person who carries MRSA and contact with any person who is suffering with MRSA infection. One of the reason why MRSA spread rapidly is because normally it does not show any symptoms to the infected person body for almost ten day. MRSA carrier - which means a person unaffected by the disease themselves and also not showing any symptoms – are more likely to spread the bacteria and making contact with thousands of object and people.

The following things have been connected with the spread of MRSA (CDC source).

• Close skin-to-skin contact
• Openings in the skin, like cuts or abrasions
• Contaminated items and surfaces
• Crowded living conditions, such as hospitals or prisons
• Poor hygiene and sanitation

In health care centers, people who carry MRSA are sometimes isolated from other patients to prevent the bacteria from spreading.

Below are some of the best ways for you to prevent MRSA according to the CDC :
• Wash your hands thoroughly at least 20 seconds. See Washing Hand Guidance
• Cover cuts and scrapes with a clean bandage.
• Avoid contact with other people’s wounds or bandages.

Never share personal items like razors or towels. If you use any shared gym equipment, wipe it down before and also after you use it. Drying clothes, sheets, and towels in a dryer – rather than letting them air dry – will helps kill bacteria.
